Our History

Carshon’s Deli traces it’s roots back to 1928 when Jewish immigrant David Carshon and his wife Ella opened the first kosher deli in Fort Worth in partnership with Chicotsky's Meat Market on Houston Street. As the deli grew it relocated to West Berry Street near TCU before finding it’s current home at 3133 Cleburne Road in the early 1970s. A community staple, Carshon’s special menu of hard-to-find kosher delicacies draws in crowds every day, and the business continues to expand.

Today Carshon’s is a bustling meeting-place for locals and out-of-towners alike. Owner/operator Mary Swift is nearly always there, ready to greet you and usher you to a table. At Carshon’s, “everything on the menu is made in-house,” and, consequently, “no table is empty for long” (Fort Worth Weekly, April 23, 2015). Dishes like “Lox with Cream Cheese and Bagel,” and the “Rutherford” (smoked turkey on a grilled Wolferman's muffin with melted swiss, served open faced) are crafted with care using traditional kosher methods. Carshon’s Deli also features “Mary’s Famous Pie-of-the-Day” six days a week. The pies are baked fresh daily and include pecan pie, coconut cream meringue pie, and various other tantalizing meringues (like lemon, butterscotch, and chocolate).

The entrance of Carshon’s Deli is lined by display cases of sliced meats and cheeses, cold salads (tuna, egg, chicken), and deserts (brownies, cheesecake, pudding). The simple and clean setting of checkered tablecloths and homey decor is punctuated by the delightful aroma of toasted breads, sharp vinegars and mustards, pungent onions, grilled meats, and fresh-baked sweets.

Handwritten lists of the daily dinner and drink specials remind the regular visitor to be bold and venture off-menu occasionally.

Imported beers (like Saint Pauli Girl and Heineken), wines, and a full compliment of Dr. Brown’s Soda are available to compliment your meal.

Carshon’s Deli has been recognized numerous times by publications including Texas Monthly, The Fort Worth Weekly, and Fort Worth Star Telegram. Carshon’s has received numerous awards over the years including Fort Worth Weekly Reader’s Choice Award 2023 for “Best Deli Sandwich, as well as numerous and consistent mentions in other publications.
